I’ve been doing a lot of research recently on toxic leadership and how we can lessen toxic behaviors.

One of the biggest contributors to workplace toxicity is poor work design—and lack of clear roles and responsibilities is often at the heart of it.

Whether it’s an unclear handoff, an assumption about a deadline, or a forgotten task, small miscommunications can snowball into bigger frustrations.

So how do you ensure clarity? Start by looking at your task list.

Make at least one thing clear today that might not have been crystal clear to the people involved.

Ask yourself: Does the other person know what they’re responsible for? Are expectations clear on both sides? It’s surprising how often we assume alignment when clarity is lacking.

Defining clear roles is a small but powerful way to reduce workplace toxicity and improve collaboration.
